Interviewer: ...It is named after a style of music?
Pablo Díaz-Reixa: Kind of. I was at a restaurant in Barcelona and I misread the menu. Because ‘pop’ is ‘octopus’ in Catalan and ‘arroz negro’ is like a typical dish. It’s like rice with black ink and I misread it and I read “pop negro” and I thought it was like a cool idea to create an album. It would be this imaginary style called “Pop Negro” and just create the greatest hits for that style and put it on the record.”
